BLENDERS The blender was invented in 1922 in Racine, WI. The blender is a small electric kitchen appliance that has a tall container and blades at the bottom that chop, grind and puree food and beverages. What wonderful things come from a blender, like making your own baby food, making milk shakes and other fountain drinks, and chopping onions. I’ve heard that blenders also make good daiquiris and other slushy fruit drinks. Dr. Jonas Salk used a blender while developing the vaccine for polio. You can find blenders in most kitchens in America. They have become an indispensable way to process food and drinks. The first electric blender was developed specifically for making malts and milk shakes at soda fountains. In 1911, Hamilton Beach Manufacturing Company marketed its own home milkshake machine, the Single Spindle Drinkmaster. In 1932, the blender’s inventor, Stephen Poplawski, received patents for a machine that would reduce fruits and vegetables to a liquid form. Around 1946, the first Osterizer blender was introduced. Blenders should not be confused with mixers. Blenders contain sharp blades and typically operate at higher speeds that chop, liquefy, or otherwise break down larger food items. A mixer is a much slower device without blades. Today, blenders are used in almost all food processing companies. Bars around the world use the blender to create their most famous drinks, although they refuse to admit it. Blenders are especially useful to bartenders because of their great power. They have the ability to crush ice. Modern blenders come in a variety of styles and speeds, and can mash and puree’ anything you can think of. The blender became an important tool in hospitals for the implementation of specific diets, as well as a vital scientific research device. If you don’t have a blender in your home, or if you need an up-to-date replacement, look no further. We have all styles here at very competitive prices.
