ESPRESSO MACHINES

Espresso is a process of extracting more coffee flavor from the coffee bean than is done with coffeemakers or coffee pots. In 1946, a commercial piston machine was invented which produced coffee with a layer of foam or “crema”. In 1961, the pump-based espresso machine was launched , and in restaurants today the pump-based coffeemakers are still used. Today, espresso machines grind the beans, froth the milk and deliver a complete cup all with the touch of a button. Espresso is quite a popular drink now since our society needs lots of caffeine just to keep up! Espresso machines have had many innovations in design to produce a consistent product regardless of the operator. Early designs were based on the operator deciding when to stop the espresso machine. Today , espresso machines are completely automatic and even produce chocolate and other flavors with the coffee. Cappuccino followed shortly behind espresso, taking its name from the resemblance of its brown color to the hoods of monks in the Capuchin order.
